Alexandra Louis reacts to the death of Turkish lawyer Ebru Timtik

Alexandra Louis, PACE General Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, reacts to the death of Turkish lawyer and human rights defender Ebru Timtik on 27 August. Ebru Timtik was in prison since June 2019 and on hunger strike since 238 days demanding a fair trial. Alexandra Louis issues a joint statement with PACE co-rapporteurs on Turkey. The rapporteurs urged the Turkish authorities to release Ebru Timtik’s colleague Aytaç Űnsal who had begun the hunger strike with her and whose health is deteriorating considerably. They also call on Turkey to respect its commitments under the European Convention on Human Rights. Full statement on PACE News
