The ALDE Group is in session this week at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, where discussions on democracy and human rights prove as heated as the record temperatures gripping the region.
Convening from 22 to 26 June, our group is addressing three priority areas: advancing democracy and human rights in Serbia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan; electing the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe; and discussing critical challenges facing the continent.
ALDE-PACE’s agenda featured high-profile participants, including Salomé Zourabishvili, the fifth President of Georgia, and Pavle Grbović, leader of Serbia’s Free Citizens Movement, who joined us to assess the state of democratic institutions in both countries.
This week, ALDE-PACE members are presenting three reports and two opinions on key subjects including eliminating gender stereotypes in media coverage, the functioning of democratic institutions in Georgia, ensuring food security during global crises, migrants’ access to healthcare, and protecting critical voices in Azerbaijan.
