ALDE Group President Jacques Maire took part in the first CoE visit to Ukraine after the start of war

On 6 April 2022, the Presidential Committee travelled to Ukraine for the first official Council of Europe visit since the beginning of Russia’s war of aggression on 24 February 2022.
In Lviv they met with Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, members of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE including several ALDE colleagues, and the Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadoviy.
“Ukraine is now recognized as a candidate for EU accession. Offering a membership perspective [to Ukraine] is now a moral obligation, even if it takes time and efforts from Ukraine and Europe!” said Jacques Maire in his twitter account.
