"I am speaking today on this very sad occasion on behalf of the liberal group in the Council of Europe. Boris Nemtsov was a great man and never gave up. Even during the dark hour he continued his work for better, just and democratic Russia. He believed that Russia was a European nation, that Russian society should be based on European values. Boris Nemtsov lived a remarkable life which ended much too early. He took pride in serving his country and was one of the leading persons of the brief democratization process which began after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Boris Nemtsov personalized the vision we all had and we have of this great country. He continued to fight for democracy when darker times came to Russia. Today I say before all in Russia, as a friend of the democratic movement in Russia, that we stand hundred per cent united behind the fight for more human rights, for freedom, for all the values that Boris fought for. This brutal killing must be a wake-up call to all of Europe that we now must be more active in standing behind the pro-democratic movements that there are in Russia. We have been too silent for too long. Boris's death must not be for nothing," said Michael Aastrup Jensen attending the memorial ceremony in Moscow on 3 March.

"I am too speaking on behalf of the ALDE group in the Parliamentary Assembly to honour the memory of Boris Nemtsov. Our deepest condolences go to his family, friends and to all of Russia. We know Boris Nemtsov as a man who fought what he believed was right, for his fellow citizens' right to assembly, for free and fair elections, for independent courts, for free media and for the freedom of the people of Russian. We honour the memory of Boris Nemtsov who had the courage to fight even if he knew about the risks and the threats, the courage to reach out for a better future for his fellow citizens. We are here today in solidarity with all the people of Russia who shared a dream, the dream that Boris Nemtsov had, the dream of a free, fair and democratic Russia. This is a sad day for Russia. This is a sad day for all of us. But to really honour Boris Nemtsov we should take up his torch and bring it forward. May he rest in peace and may he be an inspiration for people in Russia and Europe," continued Kerstin Lundgren.
